Unfortunately, one special BOLD message was unintentionally left out of
the Playbill that we can’t forget to mention here: “To my
sister Heddy—who's inspired and cared for me in ways I can never
repay.
To my daughters Emma and Lilah—your love has made me a bigger and
better person.” (from Angela Habeck)

Talkback Panelists:
- Jennie
Joseph
Ms.
Joseph was born and raised in England when her parents emigrated from
Barbados in the 1950’s. She received her midwifery education from
Barnet School of Nursing and Midwifery in affiliation with Edgware General
Hospital in London. Ms. Joseph brings 26 years of combined expertise
to help pregnant women achieve the birth of their dreams.
After moving to Florida in 1989, Ms. Joseph pursued a Midwifery license
through the State. As Executive Director of The Birth Place a free-standing
birthing facility in Winter Garden, Florida, Ms. Joseph sees women from
all walks of life that are expecting healthy babies and who choose a
natural birth. The Birth Place Birthing Center’s mission is to
provide a service to the local Orlando area community by offering quality
maternity care for all women. The JJ Way™ MCH healthcare delivery
model was developed by Jennie and has shown such promising outcomes
for indigent women that Winter Park Health Foundation has funded an
ongoing research study.
Recently, Ms. Jospeh has also given birth to a new book (available for
signing and purchase at the Birth Fair) called, Beautiful! Images
of Health, Joy and Vitality in Pregnancy and Birth.
- Shannon
Mitchell
Ms. Mitchell is a birth advocate seeking to give voices to women. Currently
practicing as labor support, certified lactation counselor and childbirth
educator, her service to women also includes 5 years as Information
Services Director for ICAN and the owner/moderator of the ICAN of Florida
Yahoo Group, volunteering as a CBE and doula for jailed women and those
in financial need. She is the co-founder of "Birth Action/Birth
After Cesarean" (www.birthaftercesarean.com) and currently serves
as the Vice President of Florida Friends of Midwives. Her most amazing
role is being a wife to Brian and mother to her four children: Liz,
Lashley, Lara and Alex, who all give graciously of their time when Mommy
has to "go help another Mommy." When asked why she feels so
passionate about birth, Shannon frequently answers: "I have three
daughters. If the cesarean rate is 1 out of three, which one do you
want me to pick? I have no choice but to fight for better care for moms
and babies."
